I am Professor of Public Policy at the London School of Economics and Political Science. Much of my work is on accountability and transparency in public finance. I am currently working on a book about economists as policymakers, and on South African politics. I studied at the FU Berlin and Stellenbosch University and completed my PhD at LSE. I previously worked at the Institute for Democracy in South Africa (Idasa), and have also been a visiting scholar at Harvard, the Hertie School, Sciences Po Paris, and Stellenbosch.
